Identity

cucumbersome wrote:But what is identity?

Identity is how we are identified -- like a Scroll of Identify reveals what makes an item unique.

cucumbersome wrote:If one were the only person in the world, would one have an identity?

I assume the last person would still be identified as a person (the Person).

cucumbersome wrote:Can a person have more than one identity?

Sure. I have a name, an alias, a gender identity, a nationality, and so forth.

cucumbersome wrote:To what extent are we able to define our own identity?

To the fullest extent that the law allows.

cucumbersome wrote:How much of our identity should be assigned to us by others?

Basically, any part of our identity that has legal ramifications: our criminal status, our mental competency and personality, our educational qualifications, our birth name, our nationality.
